Bill Stobb Reading

Hi everyone, from Bill Stobb,

On May 17th, the Pump House reading series event is the debut of my new book, Nervous Systems.  I’ve just received a box from Penguin Books with 20 pre-released copies—the book isn’t technically available until June 1.  I know: WOW.  Poetry books before their release date.  Call Rolling Stone or something.  A sample poem from the collection is at the bottom of this email.  It’s about heaven.  Hope you like it.

It’s also the final event of the ‘06-‘07 series.  Kelly Sexton and David Krump launched the series two years ago.  Since that time, we’ve managed to keep it going, secure small stipends for the featured writers, and build a regular audience for the reading series.  The Pump House series is a unique kind of event, where local writers get a chance to make contact and even share work with more established writers from around the region.  It breaks down traditional reader/audience borders, and we’re proud of that.  We’ve also gotten great response from both the visiting readers and the local audience members.  The series “has a great feel,” people say.  Mainly, we’ve made a lot of new friends, and have helped build the literary arts scene in the La Crosse area.

I hope you’ll come out for the reading and, more importantly, to support the series.  You know the drill: next Thursday, May 17th.  Doors open at 6:30, reading begins at 7:00.  “The Super-fun Raffle” ™ follows the featured reading, and then the open mic. Afterwards, you’re all welcome to hang around and celebrate a little (though I have out-service assessment meetings at 8:30 the next morning, so... no wild partying).  It’s taken me fifteen years to get this book out—I should probably enjoy it while I can.

Best to you all during this busy time of year.

Sincerely,

Bill Stobb
